It’s Bi Visibility Day today. The date has been marked annually across a quarter of a century, with the first back on 23 September 1999.

As well as trending on social media sites the date is being marked around the world with a host of events listed on the international hub website.

In years past Lib Dem and later Conservative Equality Ministers sent messages of support in the 2010s but these ended with the May administration. Those times seem to be continuing with nothing from Labour’s new Equalities minister Bridget Phillipson.

Last year the date was comparatively poorly marked in public life, likely due to falling on a Saturday when working-week staff are away from their keyboards, so the relative quiet about it from public life quarters may reflect the state of the ‘culture wars’.

Further afield though there was much more noise. The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency used the date to highlight its recent research, tweeting:

On #BiVisibilityDay let’s remember everyone should be able to love who they want without fear or discrimination.

But what’s the reality for #bisexual people in your country?

Some traditions were unchanged though: across the pond, Niagara Falls was illuminated in pink, purple and blue from 10:15 – 10:30 local time.
